November Lecture: Killaloe in the Age of Steam

We are so delighted to announce that the speaker for November will be Brian J. Goggin. Brian is an accomplished historian of Ireland’s historic waterways; you can browse his encyclopaedic blog here.

From the late 1820s to the late 1840s, Killaloe was the base for a fleet of steamers and it was an important station on the route from the south west of Ireland to Dublin, Liverpool and London. But the steamers represented just one part of the investment made in the area at the time. This talk will outline the range of investments made in Killaloe and their still-visible legacy.

“Pierhead to Pierhead: Killaloe to Liverpool in the Age of Steam” promises to be unmissable! So don’t miss out – pop on down to the library in Killaloe at 7pm on Wednesday the 29th of November. Free entry and everyone is welcome. See you there!

Please help us promote this talk by sharing this post, our website, or the Facebook event. Here is a higher quality version of the poster for printing, if you fancy going that bir further and sticking one up on your office noticeboard! Every little helps. Thanks so much!

We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to get involved with the ‘behind the scenes’ of the Society! Does this sound like you? Hit reply to this email and let us know if you’d like to join in. It requires nothing more than meeting up for coffee once or twice a month, and chatting about local history. Doesn’t that sound great!
