Privacy Policy

Killaloe-Ballina Local History Society uses WordPress.com to host this website. WordPress.com is owned by a company called Automattic, and their privacy policy is here. We at the Society do not have access to information about individual visits to our website, and do not save it. We use Jetpack within WordPress to give us broad surveys about visits to our website, such as what countries we get the most traffic from, or what blogposts are the most popular.

We use Mailchimp.com to host our mailing list. Mailchimp’s privacy policy is found here. We pass around a clipboard at each lecture or event, and invite the audience to share their email address with us. Our clipboard form states explicitly at the top that the use of the email is “to be notified of our lectures, tours, special events, and project news” via our mailing list. Interested people can also request to be added to our mailing list via a link on our website. It is not mandatory to share your email address with us in order to take part in the Society.

Once we receive your email address, we use it solely to notify you in the above manner. We do not associate your email address with any other information about you, unless you are a Member, in which case we associate it with your name and membership number. We destroy our paper sign-up sheets after our events. All email addresses are stored on our Mailchimp account online, and not on a hard drive or computer anywhere else. Only two members of our committee have the password to access this Mailchimp account – the Chairperson and the Secretary. We do not share your email address with any other person or organisation. We do not use your email address in conjunction with any ‘automated decisions’ – we use it solely to send you our personally-typed-up newsletters.

If you wish to unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time, you can do so from any email. The ‘unsubscribe’ button is at the bottom of each one, and you will be unsubscribed immediately and automatically.
