What a cracker of a topic to start the new year with!
We are delighted to welcome Dr Niamh Nic Ghabhann of the University of Limerick to our historic twin towns on Wednesday evening the 30th of January in the Lakeside Hotel. Don’t forget that this talk is entirely FREE to attend, and everyone is welcome to attend.
Niamh is currently Assistant Dean for Research in the Faculty of Arts in UL, and is also Course Director for the award-winning MA programme in Festive Arts. She has had a long and illustrious career in researching Ireland’s medieval architecture in particular, and we are lucky that she thought to turn her researcher’s eagle eye towards our little chapel in Killaloe!
We are all very familiar with this little building. It is the one that stands right next to St Flannan’s Catholic church at the top of Main St and New St in the centre of Killaloe (opposite Heaney’s Costcutter shop). But did you know that it wasn’t always there, and its journey to that spot is a story well worth hearing, with many twists and turns!
Long-time attendees of our talks will have enjoyed last April’s lecture on the wonderful Harry Clarke windows in St Flannan’s Catholic church which was given generously to us by Donncha Mac Gabhann. Who knew back then that we would soon welcome Don’s daughter back to talk about the building next door! As it’s January, however, we will be having the lecture in the warm, cosy, and well-lit environs of the Lakeside Hotel, rather than ‘on location’ as we did with Don’s.
We will see you on the evening of WEDNESDAY 30TH JANUARY at 7.30pm in the Oak Room of the Lakeside Hotel. The Lakeside Hotel are providing our Society with this venue for free, and we thank them for this sponsorship. If you want to thank them for this, why not pop in for your lunch or dinner!
Entry to our January lecture is FREE as usual, and everyone of all ages and levels of interest is welcome.
