Thank You Paddy!

We are all genealogists now! Or at least, we definitely feel much more confident in this area, thanks to Paddy Waldron’s fantastic talk last night in the Library at the December Society event. The talk was very well attended by over forty people, and we all enjoyed warm mince pies and mulled wine afterwards. It was the most engaged audience yet, with conversations about family history searches carrying on well into the afterparty, which took place in nearby Ponte Vecchio wine bar.

Paddy gave an incredibly detailed presentation which was packed with explanations and useful links. A snapshot is above. He has very kindly made the whole thing available online, and you can access it here. He also recorded the talk, and when it goes up on YouTube, the link will be on that page too.

Paddy’s guide is brilliantly useful, especially for people researching family history in the areas of Clare, Tipperary, and Limerick, and takes you right through from how to talk to family members right up to the latest DNA tools.

The Society would like to thank Paddy for sharing his knowledge so generously with our audience. The next lecture will take place in January, and we will be hearing about the history of the islands of Lough Derg from Ger Madden. We are moving to a new venue for this event, as our numbers attending have outgrown the space available at Killaloe Library. So keep an eye out here, and we will keep you posted! The Society would like to thank Killaloe Library for allowing us to use the space there every month since our inception.

Killaloe-Ballina Local History Society would like to wish all our friends a very Happy Christmas!
